Course
Introduction to Clinical Orthodontics – Level Оne
The aim of this module is for you to obtain the theoretical and practical skills in order for you to initiate an orthodontic treatment with fixed braces. We will discuss the normal occlusion and its deviations. Those are the fundamentals of orthodontics. We will explore the differential diagnoses and you will become familiar with the procedures that we use. You will be thoroughly introduced to fixed braces. You will learn the biomechanical rules that we utilize in order to align the teeth and improve the bite. During the practical sessions you can practice direct and indirect bonding of braces and we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both methods. You will learn how in insert, ligate and activate the archwires in order to initiate and complete the first stage of the treatment process the so called leveling and alignment phase. We will discuss the development of the occlusion and most importantly when and how to intervene if necessary. That particular module presents a significant package of theory and practice solutions. Its goal is to make the orthodontics more understandable for the general dental practitioner.

Treatment planning and clinical management of each case are presumably the most essential aspects of the whole treatment process. We must first be familiar with the norm and its deviations to treat different malocclusions.

Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics are dental specialties that diagnose, plan, and correct bite problems. As dentists, we became familiar with the subject during our undergraduate studies.
However, we are usually not fully exposed to it and the ability to provide treatment to actual patients. Consequently, we do not always feel comfortable offering that type of service upon graduation from dental school.
Our mission is to give you the opportunity to learn practical orthodontic skills that will enable you to treat mild and moderate cases confidently.

What is Level One or Module One – Introduction to Clinical Orthodontics?
The main goal of the course is to teach our students the basics of braces treatment and diagnosis. It is crucial for us to rely on contemporary evidence-based research in dentistry when dealing with different malocclusions.
The biggest advantage of the course is that it combines theoretical and practical sessions, which will give you significant knowledge of patient diagnosis and braces biomechanics.
Those two aspects are crucial when we want to offer orthodontic treatment that can be completed with a predictable result. That brings value to our clinical practice and gives us a chance to gain a better reputation in the community we serve.
What topics does the Clinical Orthodontics course cover?
The Clinical Orthodontics, as a part of our orthodontic courses, aims to provide a basic understanding of orthodontics, including both theory and practical sessions. Here’s what to expect from the Level 1 training.
Braces positioning is crucial
Effective braces treatment can only be achieved if they are bonded in their ideal positions. The precise positioning of the braces allows the clinician to obtain the maximum from the prescription used. The initial stage of the treatment, the levelling and alignment phase, and the whole case progress depend on bracket placement.

The combination of practical and theoretical sessions will give you a thorough understanding of the clinical and labour procedures used. Implementing the process of indirect bonding in your clinic will significantly enhance your productivity and reduce the chair time required for bonding a case.
Deepen your understanding of biomechanics
Another crucial course topic is the biomechanics we implement in treating clinical cases. That subject requires deep and profound explanation because it is the stepping stone for providing quality.
Bonding the braces is the easiest part. However, once they are positioned, we must understand the forces and vectors that actually move teeth. That is quite important because we need to avoid round-tripping and loss of anchorage as much as possible.
Treatment protocols in mixed dentition
We will also discuss in detail the development of dental occlusion and the importance of understanding when and how to intervene during the mixed dentition period. Various treatment approaches could be implemented using, for example, 2 by 4, space maintainers, space regainers, expanders, and other removable intraoral and extraoral orthodontic appliances.

One of the main reasons for intervention during the mixed dentition period is the so-called functional shift of the lower jaw. A premature contact upon closure or a transverse discrepancy could lead to a forward or lateral shift of the mandible. We should be able to notice it during the initial check-up and address it during treatment.
Complete braces treatment is usually initiated in late mixed or permanent dentition. Many teenagers and parents are interested in a consultation at that age to achieve the desired smile. People usually want to be familiar with the details of orthodontic treatment and may be interested in aesthetic braces options.
Who is the course suitable for, and what are the course requirements?
Our courses are suitable for dentists with minimal or no experience in orthodontics who are willing to obtain a solid foundation in the future. The programme offers a step-by-step introduction to the subject. The combination of practical sessions with a solid theoretical background aims to provide you with a profound understanding of the basics.
Understanding the basics is the stepping stone to progress and clinical success. Our seminars offer you the opportunity to gather valuable skills and knowledge that can be easily implemented into your clinical routine. The more you know about diagnosis and biomechanics, the better case selection you can implement before you initiate braces treatment.
The ideal course candidate is an enthusiastic professional who is willing to learn orthodontics and treat his or her own patients more confidently.
What knowledge will you receive after the course?
We aim to provide you with knowledge about contemporary orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, and execution of braces treatment. That will be the foundation on which you can rely. A detailed understanding of the subject is important regardless of the system you use. It does not matter if you use braces or removable clear aligners because biology cannot be cheated.
You will understand which cases a general dental practitioner can confidently approach and which are better referred to a specialist.
Why should you choose the orthodontic courses of Badov Orthodontics?
We offer a systematic teaching approach that allows you to come prepared for our modules and get the maximum benefit from every module. We strongly encourage you to read the suggested literature we recommend to fully prepare you for our interactive seminars.
Furthermore, we will give you a step-by-step explanation of the procedures in combination with a work on typodonts. That offers a deeper understanding of the subject and will make your visit to our events even more valuable.
